HTC today launched the One (E8) in India at an event in New Delhi. This new smartphone is essentially an affordable variant of the company’s flagship One (M8). The One (E8) is priced at Rs 34,900 and will be available from the end of this month.
As far as specifications are concerned, the One (E8) flaunts a 5-inch 1080p (441ppi) with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection and is powered by 2.5GHz Snapdragon 801 quad-core processor paired with Adreno 330 GPU and 2GB of RAM. Also included is 16GB of internal storage that can be further expanded up to 128GB using a microSD card.
On the photography front, HTC has ditched the Duo Camera from the One (M8), and is offering a 13-megapixel rear camera instead. At the front though, HTC has kept things same with a 5-megapixel snapper.
The smartphone also features a 2,600mAh battery that the company claims is good enough for 20 hours of talktime and 496 hours on standby mode. Additionally, there is also a power saving mode, which shuts down all but the bare essential apps and services. This helps stretch the battery life to up to two weeks.
Connectivity options include dual nano-SIM card slot, LTE support, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC and GPS. On the software front, it runs on the latest version of Android 4.4.2 KitKat, wrapped under HTC’s latest Sense 6.0 UI.
At this price point and with such specs, the One (E8) will be up against the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S5. Both the devices are similarly specced, with a 1080p display, 2GB of RAM, and both run on Android KitKat. The One (E8) is powered by a Snapdragon 801 quad-core SoC, while the Galaxy S5 is powered by an Exynos octa-core SoC. The Galaxy S5 also has better rear camera compared to the One (E8) — 16-megapixel to 13-megapixel. Buying decisions are also likely to be swayed by the pricing, with the HTC One (E8) priced at Rs 34,900, and the Samsung Galaxy S5 available on Indian e-commerce sites for approximately Rs 35,000.
